Chaves County assistance programs.

The first place to call for help in Chaves County New Mexico is the Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation. This non-profit agency may be able to direct people to programs that can provide short term help, and also ensure people become self-sufficient over the long term. The programs run by the agency include the following

  • Community Service Block Grant for Mortgage and Rent Payments and Utility Bill Assistance - Emergency and crisis funding may be provided for help to pay past due housing expenses, including rent and mortgages. Funds may also be available to pay energy, utility and other bills. The applicant to this assistance program which is offered by the community action agency needs to meet the total household income guidelines and provides the required documentation in order to receive aid.   • FEMA Assistance - Federal government assistance and cash grants are provided if the applicant meets the income guidelines and provides the required documentation in order to qualify for aid. Funds and grants must be used to meet emergency food or shelter needs only of the applicant.
     
  • Emergency and Crisis Relief - Emergency funding is provided for direct financial assistance to the applicant of the program that meets the programs income guidelines. The potential clients also needs to of course provide provide the required documentation in order to receive help. This emergency assistance program will also provide other forms of help, including prescription medication assistance if the client does not have Medicaid, health insurance, government support, or Worker Compensation. Emergency Relief is a local cash donation from the Carlsbad Ministerial Alliance that is issued through the Carlsbad Foundation. Emergency financial assistance is only provided for residents of Carlsbad New Mexico.

 

 

 

 

  • Low income energy bill assistance - The federal government LIHEAP program can be applied to in order to receive help and cash grants for paying heating and cooling bills. The Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation can help people apply for these cash grants.
     
  • Head Start - This federal government funded program is for preschool aged children who are from low to moderate income families. Children who attend the federal government Head Start program will will be able to participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free or low cost medical and dental care, provides children with healthy meals and snacks.
