Butler County Ohio St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs.

One of the regions leading charities that is driven by the concept of neighbors helping neighbors is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Everything from financial help for bills to low cost items from the thrift store, free clothes, food and more is offered from SVDP. They have locations in Butler County Ohio and around the region. Resources are focused on the working poor. The volunteers and staff from the society will treat people with respect and dignity. They help individuals and the needy in Butler County regardless of race, age or religious affiliation.

When someone is faced with a crisis or unexpected hardship, such as an illness, lost job, or unexpected expense, it may make it impossible for people to pay the bills. Residents may struggle to pay for basic necessities like rent, food, shelter, prescription medicine, clothing, and transportation. Every day there are heartbreaking stories of people being evicted or going hungry. So St. Vincent may offer practical, person-to-person care. Resources are provided in a respectful and loving way to those who need assistance. The agency will try to address an individual or family's initial emergency then they will send them to programs that can bring lasting, long term change.

Thrift stores operate in Butler County, Cincinnati, and other nearby regions. The locations can sell to all people household items, clothing, and even quality used furniture. Volunteers will also visit homes and give families vouchers to buy basic items like pans to cook with, clothing for school or work, or a bed and linens.

Some of the other main customers of the thrift stores are the elderly or people on a fixed income who can't afford to shop at full-priced stores. The Society of Saint Vincent, the volunteers and the thrift stores they operate help people care for themselves in a way that preserves their dignity. The locations provide affordable, higher quality goods in a clean and well-lit environments.

Other customers may be elderly people on fixed incomes or low- income families who can't afford to shop at full-priced stores. St. Vincent de Paul stores help them care for themselves in a way that preserves their dignity by providing affordable goods in clean and well-lit environments.

The stores are open to anyone. Even everyday bargain hunters from the community may be able to shop for items they need on a daily basis or maybe even unique items at the thrift stores. If you do shop there please remember that all proceeds from your purchases are channeled back into the financial and other assistance programs they run. For example, any surplus money goes to pay for the Charitable Pharmacy, food pantries or rental and utility bill assistance programs. The goal is to prevent homelessness in Butler County Ohio.

Other clothing and household items may be provided to the less fortunate. This will be income based and also depends on what the organization has available. Proof of hardship is needed. Please bring your social security cards and copy of IDs and birth certificates for all household members. Furniture assistance is available through St. Vincent de Paul conferences for those who both live within the boundaries or also for those who are outside of the service area.

Transportation assistance, including free bus tokens, may be offered in Butler County. If you need a ride for Employment, job interview and/or Medically Related Purposes then St. Vincent may be able to help pay for or arrange that transportation. You need to bring proof of employment or medical appointment and ID.

The bus token program is for local travel only, most of which will be in the city of Hamilton. It also is restricted to employment and/or medical emergencies. But Saint Vincent may help there, and read more on bus tokens for free.

A food distribution center is also available, often in partnership with the thrift stores. When someone visits a Society of Saint Vincent food pantry the “shopper” will be able able to choose the food they want for their family.

Emergency rental and utility bill assistance may be offered. A number of applications are processed every week from people seeking help with paying their housing costs, including rent and utilities. Staff from the church or Society will set up face to face appointments to meet with those clients. Those seeking help must still formally apply by completing a request for assistance. Due to limited funding and donations not everyone who qualifies will be able to receive any type of financial assistance for those housing expenses.
