Baton Rogue Louisiana food pantries.

There are several different types of food distribution centers around the Baton Rouge Louisiana parish. The leading places to contact for assistance, including free meals, food, groceries for use in kitchens, pantries, shelters, and various meal sites are listed below.

Baton Rouge pantries offer food at no or minimal cost to families of all incomes. The goods provided are for their personal use. On the other hand soup kitchens in the region offer at minimum one meal that is high in nutrition to people who need food, support, or a place to go for help. Commodity Distribution Sites provide surplus government food, breads, meats, rice, and other items to Baton Rouge families. the last option, meal sites across Baton Rouge are considered to be any non-profit agencies that offer hot or cold meals at site somewhere in the community.

There are also several food banks in the area. These are both warehousing and distribution centers. The food banks procure food, receive donations, sort, and distribute the items at no cost to local non-profits, such as charities, churches, pantries, and more. Those locations ultimately distribute the items to families in the community.

While the exact type of services will vary, in general food pantries will only help people who live in the immediate area or local neighborhood. Help is offered for people who meet the requirements of the organization and who have no other options or resources available to them. A common restriction is that families will receive an order or basket of free groceries or food every two weeks for a period of two months, at which time they need to reapply. In certain cases emergency aid may be offered, or some restrictions may be waived.
