Free free school supplies in Atlanta and surrounding counties.

Find assistance programs and agencies in the Atlanta community that give free school supplies to less fortunate kids. There may be clothes, backpacks, Chromebooks and other items for students from K to 12. The free items is for all counties in the Atlanta region, including Fulton, DeKalb, and Gwinnett County among others. Get free school supplies near you in Atlanta and surrounding counties.

The list below is only a sampling of free back to school supply events and programs. There are many other options too, and find more help from free clothing closets in Atlanta. All these events that giveaway free school backpacks, supplies, sneakers and other items come and go. They are not always offered each year, so it is recommended to call in advance for specifics.

Also, the type of school supplies given out will vary. The agencies depend on the work of volunteers as well as donations from people and businesses across the Atlanta region. What may be given out to less fortunate students is the result of donations and volunteer work, but it includes:

  • Writing materials, including pens, pencils, or notebooks.
  • Students may be given electronics, including computers, calculators, tablets, or even free laptop computers.
  • School clothing items, such as uniforms, shoes, boots, jackets, pants, dresses, socks, and more.
  • Additional supplies may be backpacks and other goods, free gift cards, and other vouchers.

As we noted, the list below is only a small sampling of where to get school supplies in the greater Atlanta and surrounding area, including Fulton, DeKalb, and other communities. Places for free school supplies in Atlanta GA region

Georgia Department of Education and Atlanta City School District
Students from any very low-income family, single moms or dads or the poor can get help. The state gives vouchers for free back to school supplies, basic clothing, shoes, winter coats, and other goods. All school supplies are first come-served for students in Atlanta Public School District.

Antioch Urban Ministries

The charity assists people from all metro counties, including Butts, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale. There is a free clothing closet that may have school clothes during the summer. Children from all grades can get the uniforms, shoes, and items they need for school, and some free supplies may be offered as well such as backpacks and more.

Atlanta Inner-City Ministry

There is a youth program. Some limited back to school supplies may be offered or clothes in Fulton County. Notebooks, backpacks, sneakers, belts, jackets and even pens or pencils.

Alive Christian Center

The faith-based group runs an annual back to school event and supply giveaway. Volunteers hand out items there are also meals served, snacks given, and much more. The free event can help hundreds of kids get the uniforms, shoes, backpacks, books, and other supplies they may need.

Salvation Army of Georgia
Of course, there are centers around the greater Atlanta area and nearby counties including Cobb, Cowetta, DeKalb, and others. Each location collects surplus items ranging from toys to used computers, clothes, shoes, and more. Volunteers sort the goods, including school supplies, coats, and other goods and then pass them for free to students. Families First, Inc.

Churches including Lift Up Atlanta
Items available may be Ballpoint Pens, New backpacks, Colored Pencils, 3 Ring Binders, Large Erasers, Index Cards, Box of Crayons, Rulers, Kid Friendly Scissors, Staplers, Notebook Paper, pencils, highlighters and more. Divine Unity

They offer clothing, donation, furniture, housing, and more to families of all races, religions, and backgrounds. A focus of school supply assistance programs are on minorities though, including African Americans and immigrants in the Atlanta and surrounding area. Seasonal and emergency, one-off events
There are many corporations, public service agencies, schools, fire and police departments and other groups that organize occasional events. All of them collect school items from the public and then provide them to students from low to moderate income families as well as single moms in the Atlanta area.   • GELC of Atlanta - Address: 6330 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Georgia, A back to school block party is normally held... Children of all ages can be given a bookbag full of free supplies, paper, pens, and other goods.
  • Back to School and Health Fair at West End Church of Christ, 1303 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., Atlanta, GA. Everyone from preschoolers to college kids can get help. There are computers, books, gently-used uniforms, school supplies, and more. Heath checks are even given too, as well as referrals to free immunization programs.
