Gas meter broke

My gas meter was broke when I moved into the house. I rent and I was unaware. One day the gas company came and replaced it and charged me what they believed would have been the 3 months prior for that service. My bill ended up being over $700. Unable to pay the bill, I let my gas be shut off. That was several months ago. I heat with gas and with the cold weather now coming, I need to use my furnace but cant afford to pay off that old bill. Who can help me pay it and get my heat back on? Thanks,

Call the gas company directly and see if you can work out a payment plan with them. Cold weather is just about over thank God. Good Luck
