Facing Eviction

Post by dani »

I live in a house in Orange County California. I was unable to pay my December rent and now have been served an eviction summons. I have been trying since November to get help from my local agencies...in November I never got a call back from referrals given and in December contacted more and they were out of funds. The call backs I did receive says they cannot help me. For one my rent is $2995. I do not know what to do. I fear being homeless. Does anyone help when the rent is that high? I am unemployed and on state disability.

Myrtle Beach, SC
I have exhausted all resources I can find to assist with rental payments. I am a single mom of a 10 year old who is facing eviction in the very near future. The book keeper of the rental company has been "hiding" the fact that I am so far behind, hoping that I will find an Angel or a miracle. In two weeks I will be 4 mos behind. A little over a year ago my only form of transportation was stolen from in front of the condo i was renting at the time in the middle of the night. unfortunately, I only had liability insurance on it because it was a little older (2002) and was paid for. I had to rely on various people to bring me to work and back. Between babysitters that would not show up and friends that were running consistantly late I was not able to get to work on time. This led to my dismissal. Another issue was that I had just returned to that employer so the amount I was able to draw for unemployment was only $75 per week. With no car, and no money, with not so good credit ( I was with my daughter's father for 6 years who was an alcoholic...his credit was horrible so he chose to tank mine as well) makes things hard to pay bills. My father who lives in another state was helping me out untill September when he just stated in an e-mail that he could not help any longer and for me not to contact him again! I do not have any family here nor any family that could or would help out. There is no public transportation near where I live and the closest business or mini-market is 2.5 miles one way from where i live. I have had some well meaning people tell me to move, but how do i move with no car, owing money here to good people who have been extremely patient, and having a daughter who for the first time feels secure and safe where we live. My daughter has mild intelluct disorder along with anxiety issues. She is in a special inclusive ed class along with various therapies and medication management. She is just begining to show progress in school, how can I take her away from that? Not to mention I can not afford to move anywhere. I have talked to local housing authority here, Salvation Army, United Way, Helping Hand Charity that said they could only help with $200, A few churches etc...Can you offer any other suggestions?

Calling all those agencies, like the Salvation Army in Horry County and Myrtle Beach was the right thing to do. You just need to keep calling and trying to find agencies that can help in your situation. I can provide you more info and phone numbers that can help with housing, hopefully with daughter, and help you get back on track. And hopefully prevent the eviction.

Try places like the North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) (843) 399-0862.
Another place to call is the Churches Assisting People (CAP) 843.488.2277.
They may have credit repair programs and eviction prevention.

Here are the places to call for rent help in Westchester. Charities and non-profits like the Westchester Department of Social Services (phone 914-813-6000) has a housing grant program, and also try a local church, the Grace Church Community Center, for information and possible financial aid. 914-949-3098

To Whom it may concern, I am looking for help in regards to prevent eviction from my apartment that I have had for over a year now in Phoenix Arizona. Last month I had to pay on an old traffic ticket from 8 years ago which landed up being $544 and I still have about another $100 to pay for late fees. I am currently on SSI & SSDI and get only $689 a month, $525 of that goes towards rent and about another $200 towards bills and necessary home products; laundry, shampoo, the necessities. That leaves me about $60 or so to live on for a month. I do get food stamps and that helps. I also have been through some major medical problems over the past year and back in Jan of this year I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic along with other minor things. It has been hard to get it under control, but I am improving. My doctors do not have me cleared to get back to work. I have going to DHS in Ypsi and a normal SER application is suppose to be reviewed in ten days, well I was told there is a major back load and that it can take as long as 30 days. How is that suppose to help me. Thank you, I'll be looking for help and suggestion as the property manager is willin to work with anyone that is willing to assist.

Look into a lawyer to deal with those traffic ticket fees. You need to pay your rent before dealing with a fee. $60 month just will not cover it. But as far as your rent in Phoenix Arizona goes, try this for our listing of rental assistance in Phoenix. We have listing of dozens of agencies, non-profits, charities, and government programs to call, like one being Community Housing Partnership Phoenix which can be reached at 602-253-6905.

hi, i was wondering if someone could help me. i'm at my wit's end.

i have lived in this apartment for 6 years. since i am a paraprofessional at a school, it's imperative that i get a summer job to help pay the bills. however, the last 2 summers, there have been no jobs (i live in a small town), so my savings is gone and now i owe about $800 in rent, $300 must be paid immediately. i can't seem to get a payday loan (but that's probably because i JUST got a bank account due to identity theft) and i'm not having any luck with any type of grant. i've had to deal with 2 family deaths (with another one imminent) and medical bills (i have an iron deficiency), so i'm stuck right now. i have no one else to turn to (my family will not support me) and no where else to go. i'm prepared to live in a u-haul, but i'd rather not.

i've gotten a letter saying they will contact a lawyer, but i'm not sure whether they already have. to make matters worse, the rental company recently changed, so the new guy collecting money is a stranger to me -- i don't know him or what he'll do. i sent him a pleading email, explaining my situation, but i'm not sure what'll happen.

please, can someone help me? i'm single and have no family to speak of. my friends have married and moved on and i am SERIOUSLY at a dead in. i can pay back any loan starting in october, but i just need help with this bump over the hill. thank you in advance. renee...

You don't really want to use a payday loan to pay rent. That will start you off in a bad cycle. You did not list your state or county, so our reply can't be too specific as most programs are local. So try doing this to find phone numbers for non-profits, charities, and assistance programs. Follow this link for state assistance programs. Scroll midway down the page. Select your state. After choosing your state, read about programs and scroll down to pick your county and/or town. Try assistance before a loan.

I have recently become disabled and after filing for unemployment for the past month, found out I was rejected due to inability to work. I have been waiting for disability and have been told it will take approx 6 months to start receiving payments once accepted. I am already two months behind on rent, and don't even have gas to get my child to re's appointments. I don't know where to turn. Please point me in.some direction before we are evicted and homeless. We live in New Orleans. Thank you for the assistance.

For the gas, some agencies like the Salvation Army in New Orleans may have volunteers to drive you to an appointment, or they may in face be able to give you vouchers for buying gas. Try them. Can you stay with someone until disability kicks in. Also, find more information on rent assistance New Orleans and the different agencies and programs that operate in the city.

Hello,
I am currently a SSG stationed at Fort Hood. I have been in the military for 6 years. I am going through a Medical Evaluation Board for Chronic PTSD and Major Depression. Some unforeseen medical situations(mental and physical) occurred last year to where I had to move my aunt here, causing some disruption in my financial situation, where I could not catch up. Along with having to get another car because the schools rezoning, so my daughter no longer had a way to or from school. So I ended up moving out of a home in which I had rented for 1+ years. I moved into a four-plex because it was the most expeditious way to go. Now I pay rent on the apartment and a storage. The property that I am currently in is not the most satisfying, especially with the 24hr a day barking dog. I am trying to move back into another house, but no one will rent to me, because I have this $3k judgement from my last rental property. The rent was only $925, but again I could not catch up, so even though I was paying the rent, the late fees kept compiling. Do you have any suggestions on how I may find a home suitable for myself and my family? Thank you in advance

Hello,
We signed a 2 yr lease last July & 4 months later w/o our knowledge the owner put the house for sale and people came for a scheduled viewing that we knew nothing about. When we contacted the leasing company we were told the owner's had financial difficulties and now had to let the house go but would remove the house to honor our lease. We began to get e-mails on all kinds of things and each time we replied we were told "well you can always move". Then we were given a certified notice today that said we had 30 days to move out but still had to pay for the month of June & the house has never been removed from the market. We feel we were defrauded in our lease. How do you go from an agreement to 2 yrs w/ improvements to the home by us based on the 2 year agreement to the house needing to be placed for sale in 4 months? Please help we are a family w/ a disabled parent and all funds exhausted into the home we expected to be in for 2 yrs & nowhere to go. We feel like we are being defrauded and bullied out of all we have and do not know where or who to turn to.
Please help.

It is his property and only a quarter and he have lots of problems with this. I'm in the house list the council but until then I have to be place where I can live with my family. I have my daughter for one year and a half now and my husband went to see a house to rent but do not have money for the deposit as I do to help? We also have another baby on the way, and do not want to be homeless.

If you can help in any way I will really appreciate it. You can email me back as well as call me at any time. Thank you!
