Dale County Alabama Salvation Army emergency help.

Below is a listing of assistance programs that are administered by the Dale County Salvation Army center. The resources available are limited, but they are established in a way to meet the most vulnerable in the community. Whether it is free school supplies, rent help, shelter, food or Christmas toys, assistance is offered. Some of the key application criteria are noted below as well as the contact information in Dale County.

Emergency financial help from Dale County Salvation Army

Emergency Financial Assistance – This service is for low income, under employed, and working poor families. They need to be at risk if they were to be homeless or loss their electric/heat service. The Dale County Salvation Army may help with rent for those in danger of eviction or provide energy bill help. There will only be a small contribution made towards their pay bills.

Clothing and Furniture Assistance – Families in a crisis, such as recovering from a disaster, can receive a free voucher for the Dale County Salvation Army Thrift Store. The voucher can be used to pay for replacement clothing, bedding, sleeping bags, shoes, linens, jackets, couches, tables, and other home items. It will depend on what the person lost.

Other clients of the Salvation Army can also be given a free voucher as part of the Clothing and Furniture Assistance program. They too will use it to shop at a local thrift store. What may be provided to help victims of domestic violence, immigrants, people leaving an institution such as a hospital and job seekers. It will help the person get back on their feet. As an example
-Women fleeing violence can be given new furniture for their new home.
-Residents of Dale County Alabama that need work clothes for an interview or first day of a new job may use the Salvation Army thrift store for free.
-Vouchers can be given to a refugee trying to get settled.

Dale County Alabama Salvation Army Food Assistance – The pantry and soup kitchen help families as well as the homeless. Residents of Dale County Alabama can be given a few day supply of free, nonperishable grocery items. Or the soup kitchen is available too. While it mostly feeds the homeless and shelter guests, anyone can drop in.

The client choice food pantry is used to supplement what a household now buys on their own. The Salvation Army food pantry is not a long term solution for ending hunger. Instead the Dale County Salvation Army will offer some people groceries so they can make nourishing meals for their household.

Thanksgiving / Christmas Food Boxes or Meals – During the holidays, a warm meal is served. It is for anyone who asks for it. There are no income requirements, religious beliefs or criteria in place, as the Salvation Army wants a family (or a single person) to have a place to go at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving. There may also be food boxes given out.

Additional Social services

Angel Tree and School Supply Program – Children, infants, and young teenagers can be given essential items including free Christmas gifts, clothes, toys, shoes, notebooks, personal items. electronics and backpacks. Local businesses and churches in Dale County partner with the Salvation Army to provide Angel Tree sites or collect surplus school supplies for students.

As part of these services, donations are needed. Any person or businesses from across Dale County can drop off new school supplies or toys. What is also in high demand includes gift cards or boxes of food. The fact is that many area kids from families in poverty, disabled citizens, single moms and senior citizens receive help at each holiday or back to school season.

Dale County Salvation Army Family Store – This is the low cost “thrift store”. The faith based charity accepts donations of gently used furniture, computers, appliances, clothing, electronics, winter coats, and more. Then, everything is sold to the public at an affordable price or the Salvation Army will give a voucher for families that need emergency assistance as noted above.
